Job summary

Waste Mart (Pty) Ltd is seeking a hands-on Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Supervisor in Cape Town to lead daily operations and drive improvements. You will oversee a small team responsible for sorting, baling, and dispatching recyclable materials, with a focus on quality, efficiency and safety.

The role requires strong leadership, a passion for recycling, and the ability to sustain high performance across production activities while maintaining strict health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years’ supervisory experience in recycling, waste management, manufacturing, warehouse or production.
• Forklift licence will be advantageous
• Valid driver’s licence
• Computer literate (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Experience with production reporting

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily operations of the MRF.
• Lead and manage a team including 4 Sorters/Pickers, 2 Bulk Bag Operators, 2 Baler Operators, 1 Forklift Driver.
• Ensure all recyclable materials are correctly identified and sorted.
• Identify contaminated, mixed or unacceptable materials before weighing and baling.
• Maintain high-quality standards for all outgoing recyclable products.
• Plan and manage the daily and weekly baling schedule.
• Coordinate and book outbound loads with customers.
• Monitor stock levels and inventory control.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organized working environment.
• Ensure equipment is inspected and maintained; report faults.
• Improve productivity, efficiency and recovery rates.
• Develop new ideas to improve performance and profitability.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures.

Location: Waste Mart (Pty) Ltd - Cape Town - Athlone Industria 2

Waste Mart (Pty) Ltd is looking for a highly motivated and hands‑on Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Supervisor to lead the daily operations of our growing recycling facility.

This position requires an individual who is passionate about recycling, has strong leadership skills, and can continuously improve operational efficiency while maintaining high quality standards.

The successful candidate will oversee a team responsible for sorting, processing, baling, and dispatching recyclable materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily operations of the MRF.
• Lead and manage a team consisting of:
  • 4 Sorters/Pickers
  • 2 Bulk Bag Operators
  • 2 Baler Operators
  • 1 Forklift Driver
• Ensure all recyclable materials are correctly identified and sorted.
• Identify contaminated, mixed or unacceptable materials before weighing and baling.
• Maintain high-quality standards for all outgoing recyclable products.
• Plan and manage the daily and weekly baling schedule.
• Coordinate and book outbound loads with customers.
• Monitor stock levels of all recyclable materials.
• Ensure accurate weighing and inventory control.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Ensure all equipment is inspected and maintained according to schedule.
• Report equipment faults and assist in planning preventative maintenance.
• Improve productivity, efficiency and recovery rates.
• Develop new ideas and innovative methods to improve the MRF’s performance and profitability.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Apply discipline fairly and consistently where required.
• Train and develop staff to improve performance.
