Placements24 seeks a highly knowledgeable Sommelier for a world-renowned wine estate in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Oversee the wine program, curate an exceptional list, provide expert recommendations, and ensure impeccable service alongside the Executive Chef.

Responsibilities include inventory management, staff training, tastings, and ongoing education on global wine trends. The ideal candidate holds a recognized sommelier certification and at least five years of luxury hospitality experience,

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a sommelier in fine dining or luxury hospitality.
• Recognized sommelier certification (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers or WSET Level 3 or higher).
• Extensive knowledge of global wine regions and varietals.
• Strong communication and guest service skills.
• Experience in cellar management and inventory control.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage a comprehensive and diverse wine list, featuring local and international selections.
• Source wines from producers and distributors, negotiating prices and maintaining supplier relationships.
• Oversee cellar management, including inventory control, storage, and organization.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and pairings to guests, enhancing their dining experience.
• Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for guests and front-of-house staff.
• Ensure adherence to proper wine service standards, including decanting, serving temperatures, and glassware.
• Monitor wine consumption, sales trends, and profitability, adjusting the wine list as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized wine cellar and service areas.
• Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu development and food and wine pairing strategies.
• Stay updated on global wine trends, emerging regions, and new vintages.
