Job summary

African Echoes Recruitment is seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor for a 5-star Big 5 safari lodge in Vaalwater, Limpopo. You will oversee maintenance of lodge infrastructure, guest areas, and vehicles, leading a team in a remote safari environment.

Responsibilities include preventative/corrective maintenance, inspections, and hands-on repairs to ensure safety, luxury presentation, and seamless guest experiences. Trade qualifications and a valid driver’s license are advantageous.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years maintenance experience, safari lodge or remote hospitality preferred
• Proven supervisory or team leadership experience
• Hands‑on experience across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding and repairs
• Knowledge of generators, solar and water systems; boreholes and pumps advantageous
• Experience with firefighting equipment and safety practices
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Good leadership, planning and communication skills
• Physically fit for outdoor work in varying weather and remote environments

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Housekeeping and Front-of-House on maintenance needs
• Conduct risk assessments and report hazards
• Store tools, chemicals, and hazardous materials safely
• Support water, power and waste-management initiatives
• Align maintenance practices with environmental and conservation standards

Job description

A 5-star Big 5 luxury safari lodge in Vaalwater, Limpopo is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance of lodge infrastructure, guest areas, staff facilities, vehicles and equipment. The successful candidate will lead the maintenance team while ensuring high standards of safety, functionality and presentation in a remote safari environment.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 3–5 years' maintenance experience, preferably within a safari lodge or remote hospitality environment
• Proven supervisory or team leadership experience
• Strong technical knowledge across general building maintenance
• Hands‑on experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding and general repairs
• Knowledge of generators, solar systems and water systems
• Knowledge of boreholes, pumps, filtration and sewage systems advantageous
• Experience maintaining firefighting equipment
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities
• Good leadership, organisational and planning skills
• High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies
• Valid driver's licence
• Trade qualification such as electrician, plumber, carpenter or similar advantageous
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage preventative and corrective maintenance across the property
• Conduct regular inspections and address maintenance issues promptly
• Carry out hands‑on maintenance and general repairs
• Maintain guest rooms, public areas, staff accommodation and back‑of‑house facilities
• Maintain generators, solar systems, water systems, sewage systems and firefighting equipment
• Supervise, train and motivate the maintenance team
• Allocate daily and weekly maintenance tasks
• Monitor work progress and ensure tasks are completed to required standards
• Enforce safe working practices and correct use of tools and equipment
• Ensure guest‑facing areas are maintained to luxury standards
• Respond promptly and discreetly to guest‑related maintenance issues
• Work closely with Housekeeping and Front‑of‑House teams regarding maintenance requirements
• Conduct risk assessments and report hazards
• Ensure tools, chemicals and hazardous materials are stored safely
• Support water, power and waste‑management initiatives
• Ensure maintenance practices support environmental and conservation standards

PACKAGE

• Salary: R13,000 per month CTC
• Live-in position
• Three weeks on, 7 days off
• Uniform and food provided
• Compulsory 5% Provident Fund contribution
