Job Title: Maintenance Officer
Job Purpose
We are looking for a hands-on, reliable and practical Maintenance Officer to take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the company's premises, facilities and equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for attending to general building maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical work, painting, drywalling and repairs, while also assisting with the maintenance and operation of the company's generators, solar systems and backup water supply.
The role also provides support for company events, expos and activations, including assembling furniture, setting up stands and ensuring that all required equipment and facilities are ready and functioning. This is a varied role suited to someone who is proactive, takes initiative, can troubleshoot problems independently and is not afraid to get their hands dirty.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend to day-to-day maintenance and repairs across the company's premises.
- Perform basic plumbing repairs, including leaks, taps, toilets and water-related issues.
- Perform basic electrical maintenance and fault finding where appropriately qualified.
- Carry out painting, touch-ups, drywalling and general building repairs.
- Assemble, repair and maintain office furniture, fixtures and fittings.
- Conduct regular inspections of the premises and identify maintenance requirements.
- Ensure the premises are maintained in a safe, functional and presentable condition.
- Coordinate with external contractors and service providers when specialised repairs are required.
- Assist with the day-to-day operation and maintenance of generators.
- Monitor generator performance, fuel levels and general condition.
- Assist with monitoring and basic maintenance of solar and backup power systems.
- Monitor and maintain the company's backup water supply systems.
- Identify faults or potential issues and escalated to the relevant service provider when required.
- Maintain records of maintenance, servicing and repairs.
- Assist with the set-up and breakdown of company events, exhibitions and expos.
- Assemble and dismantle stands, furniture, displays and other equipment.
- Transport and position equipment and materials as required.
- Ensure all required equipment is available, assembled and ready for events.
- Attend events and expos when required to assist with setup, breakdown and any maintenance requirements.
- Provide hands-on support to ensure events run smoothly from a facilities and setup perspective.
- Ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards around the premises.
- Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and stored appropriately.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Attend to urgent maintenance requirements as they arise.
- Assist with office moves, furniture rearrangements and general premises requirements.
- Assist different departments with practical maintenance and setup requirements.
- Perform other reasonable and ad hoc duties as required.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- 3-5 years' experience in a general maintenance, facilities or similar hands-on role.
- Practical experience in basic plumbing, electrical work, painting, drywalling and general building maintenance.
- Experience working with generators, solar systems and backup water systems will be advantageous.
- Experience with furniture assembly, event/expo setup or similar work will be advantageous.
- Valid driver's licence.
