Placements24 is seeking an experienced Long-Haul Truck Driver to operate from a George, Western Cape depot. You will drive heavy-duty trucks across provinces, ensuring safety, efficiency, and timely deliveries, with strong focus on route planning, load security, and accurate logs.

The role requires a PDP, Code 14 license and 7+ years of verifiable long-haul experience, along with knowledge of interprovincial routes, and ability to work independently while maintaining a high service standard.

Qualifications

• Valid PDP and Code 14 license with a clean driving record.
• Minimum 7 years of verifiable long-haul experience, preferably with large freight companies.
• Proven ability to handle heavy-duty vehicles safely and competently.
• Knowledge of interprovincial routes and SA road networks.
• Experience with electronic logging devices or manual logbooks.
• Strong vehicle maintenance and safety-check knowledge.
• Ability to work independently for extended periods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for reporting and coordination.
• Physical fitness to climb in/out of cab and assist with loading.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty trucks for long-haul transportation between provinces.

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report defects.
• Plan routes to meet delivery schedules considering distance and rest stops.
• Secure cargo properly to prevent damage.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., articulated trucks, semi-trailers) for long-haul transportation of goods between provinces.
• Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, regulations, and company safety policies during all operations.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and its equipment, reporting any defects or maintenance needs immediately.
• Plan and manage routes efficiently to meet delivery schedules, considering factors such as distance, traffic, and rest stops.
• Ensure proper loading and securing of cargo to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
• Maintain accurate and detailed logs of driving hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery confirmation.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers and logistics managers regarding route progress, delays, or any issues encountered on the road.
• Handle all delivery paperwork, including bills of lading and proof of delivery, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Provide exceptional customer service when interacting with clients or receiving/dispatching goods.
• Maintain the cleanliness and operational readiness of the assigned vehicle.

Requirements

• Valid Professional Driver's Permit (PDP) and a valid Code 14 driver's license with an excellent driving record.
• Minimum of 7 years of verifiable experience in long-haul truck driving, preferably with large freight companies.
• Proven ability to handle heavy-duty commercial vehicles safely and competently.
• Demonstrated knowledge of interprovincial routes and road networks across South Africa.
• Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) or manual logbooks.
• Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, safety checks, and emergency procedures.
• Ability to work independently for extended periods and manage time effectively.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to react calmly and effectively to unexpected situations.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and coordination.
• Must be physically fit and capable of performing tasks such as climbing in and out of the cab, and potentially assisting with some loading/unloading.
