Placements24 in Upington, Northern Cape, seeks an experienced Long-Distance Truck Driver to operate interprovincial routes across South Africa. You will ensure cargo is loaded and secured, perform pre-trip inspections, and maintain accurate logs while meeting tight delivery schedules.

The ideal candidate has a valid PDP and Code 14 license, at least 6 years of professional driving with 4+ years in long-haul work, and a proven safe driving record.

• Proven experience operating heavy-duty trucks (tractor-trailers, etc.)

• Ability to work independently and adhere to schedules
• Proficiency with GPS and electronic logging devices (ELDs)

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., tractor-trailers, rigid trucks) for long-distance transportation of goods between provinces.
• Ensure the safe loading and securing of cargo according to company and client specifications.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and its load, documenting any issues.
• Plan and execute routes efficiently, adhering to strict delivery schedules and timeframes.
• Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery details using on-board systems or logbooks.
• Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company policies related to long-distance driving.
• Perform basic vehicle maintenance and report any mechanical problems to the fleet maintenance department promptly.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route status, delivery updates, and any potential delays or issues encountered.
• Ensure the cleanliness and professional appearance of the truck cab.
• Safely navigate diverse road conditions and weather, prioritizing safety at all times.

Requirements

• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) and appropriate driver's license (minimum Code 14 required).
• Minimum of 6 years of professional driving experience, with at least 4 years specifically in long-distance or interprovincial truck driving.
• Proven experience operating heavy-duty trucks (tractor-trailers, tankers, etc.).
• Impeccable driving record with no major accidents or traffic violations.
• Thorough knowledge of South African road networks, traffic laws, and long-haul operational best practices.
• Ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and adhere to schedules.
• Physical fitness and ability to perform pre-trip inspections and manage loading/unloading as required.
• Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and commitment to safety.
• Proficiency in using GPS navigation systems and understanding of electronic logging devices (ELDs) if applicable.
• Good communication skills for effective interaction with dispatch and clients.
