Qualifications

You will be responsible for operating heavy-duty vehicles over extended distances, adhering to strict schedules and maintaining the highest standards of road safety. Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty commercial trucks (e.g., articulated lorries, semi-trailers) safely and efficiently for long-haul transportation.
• Transport goods and materials according to established routes and schedules, primarily within Western Cape and inter-provincial routes.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, reporting any mechanical issues or defects promptly.
• Ensure cargo is properly secured, loaded, and unloaded, preventing damage and ensuring compliance with weight restrictions.
• Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, and delivery details using electronic logging devices or paper logs as required.
• Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company policies at all times.
• Manage time effectively to meet delivery deadlines while prioritizing safety.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and other stakeholders regarding delivery status and any potential delays.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the truck cab.

Requirements

• Valid South African Code 14 (EC1) driver's license with a valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit).
• Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience as a long-haul truck driver, preferably with experience in the freight and logistics industry.
• Proven clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents.
• Demonstrated ability to operate heavy-duty trucks safely and competently.
• Familiarity with different types of cargo and methods of securement.
• Good knowledge of road networks, especially within Western Cape and commonly used long-haul routes.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively under pressure.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for minor roadside repairs and reporting.
• Physical fitness to handle loading/unloading duties where necessary and endure long hours of driving.
