About the Role

Our client, a leading national logistics provider, is seeking a proactive and skilled Logistics Operations Planner to join their dynamic team in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga . This role is essential for ensuring the efficient and timely planning of transportation routes, resource allocation, and delivery schedules across the company's network. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of transportation logistics, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. You will play a key part in optimizing operational performance and maintaining high service levels for clients in the Nelspruit region.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule daily, weekly, and monthly transportation routes and activities to ensure optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness.


• Coordinate with drivers, fleet managers, and warehouse personnel to manage vehicle assignments and ensure timely pickups and deliveries.


• Monitor the movement of goods, proactively identifying and resolving potential delays or disruptions.


• Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and other logistics software to track shipments, manage resources, and optimize routes.


• Analyze operational data to identify trends, performance issues, and opportunities for improvement in logistics planning.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies.


• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, providing updates on shipment status and resolving logistical challenges.


• Assist in managing carrier relationships and performance, negotiating rates where applicable.


• Develop contingency plans to address unexpected operational issues, such as vehicle breakdowns or traffic disruptions.


• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the logistics operations department.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred.


• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in logistics planning, transportation coordination, or a similar role.


• Demonstrated experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and logistics planning software.


• Solid understanding of road transportation principles, routing, and scheduling.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.


• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.


• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.


• Experience in coordinating diverse fleets (trucks, vans) is a plus.


• This hybrid role requires flexibility to work collaboratively in the Nelspruit office while managing remote planning tasks.
