Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Legal Advisor specializing in litigation to join its remote legal team supporting operations based in Randburg. You will manage all aspects of dispute resolution from initial assessment through to resolution, develop legal strategies, instruct counsel, and safeguard the company’s interests in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the company's litigation portfolio across civil, commercial and contractual matters.
• Develop and implement strategies for ongoing and potential actions.
• Instruct external counsel and manage cost-effective handling of cases.
• Conduct legal research to support case preparation and provide strategic advice.
• Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations and other ADR forums.

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Legal Advisor specializing in litigation to join their remote legal team, supporting operations based in Randburg . This critical role involves managing and driving all aspects of the company's dispute resolution processes, from initial assessment through to resolution. You will be responsible for developing legal strategies, instructing counsel, and ensuring the company's interests are protected in legal proceedings across South Africa. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of civil procedure, and a proven ability to achieve favorable outcomes in complex litigation matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all aspects of the company's litigation portfolio, including civil, commercial, and contractual disputes.
• Develop and implement effective legal strategies for ongoing and potential legal actions.
• Instruct and manage external legal counsel, ensuring efficient and cost-effective handling of cases.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support case preparation and provide strategic advice.
• Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and other alternative dispute resolution forums as required.
• Ensure compliance with court rules, procedures, and deadlines throughout the litigation process.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with a minimum of 6 years of proven experience specifically in litigation .
• In-depth knowledge of South African civil procedure and evidence law.
• Demonstrated success in managing complex commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate legal arguments clearly.
• Must be admitted to practice and hold a valid Fidelity Fund Certificate.
