About the Role

Our client, a renowned architectural practice, is seeking an experienced Lead Urban Architect to spearhead exciting mixed-use development projects in Tembisa, Gauteng . This senior role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of urban planning principles and a passion for creating vibrant, sustainable communities. You will be responsible for leading design teams, conceptualizing innovative urban solutions, and overseeing projects from initial feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction documentation. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, exceptional design flair, and a proven ability to manage complex projects and stakeholder expectations within the South African context. This is a critical role that will significantly influence the urban fabric of the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization and design development of large-scale mixed-use urban projects.
• Develop master plans and urban design strategies in collaboration with planning authorities and stakeholders.
• Manage and mentor a team of architects and designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Prepare high-quality design proposals, presentations, and detailed technical documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant planning regulations, building codes, and sustainability standards.
• Liaise with clients, developers, government agencies, and other consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
• Conduct feasibility studies, site analyses, and impact assessments.
• Oversee the coordination of multidisciplinary design teams to ensure seamless integration of architectural, engineering, and landscape elements.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Architecture or Urban Planning, with a specialization in Urban Design.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in architectural design, with at least 5 years in a lead or senior urban design role.
• Demonstrated success in leading and delivering significant mixed-use urban development projects.
• Expertise in urban planning theories, design principles, and South African planning legislation.
• Proficiency in advanced design and visualization software (e.g., Rhino, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Lumion/Enscape).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to manage project budgets and timelines effectively.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and public consultation processes.
• A strong portfolio showcasing award-winning or impactful urban design projects.
• Professional registration with SACAP is mandatory.
