Key Responsibilities

Lead the conceptualization and design development of large-scale urban planning and architectural projects. Develop master plans, urban design frameworks, and detailed architectural designs for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. Collaborate closely with city officials, urban planners, engineers, and community stakeholders to ensure project alignment with municipal goals and public aspirations. Manage project teams, including junior architects, urban designers, and external consultants, ensuring high-quality design output and timely delivery. Conduct feasibility studies, site analyses, and impact assessments for potential urban development projects. Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including reports, presentations, and detailed architectural drawings. Represent the firm in client meetings, public consultations, and design review panels. Stay current with global trends in urbanism, sustainable development, and innovative architectural practices. Ensure designs are compliant with relevant planning regulations, building codes, and environmental standards. Mentor and develop the skills of the urban design and architecture team.

Requirements

Master's degree in Architecture or Urban Planning, with a specialization in Urban Design. Professional registration with SACAP is mandatory. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in architectural practice, with a significant focus on urban design and master planning. Demonstrated experience in leading complex, large-scale urban development projects from inception to completion. Expertise in urban planning theory, spatial analysis, and design methodologies. Proficiency in relevant design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, GIS software, and Adobe Creative Suite. Exceptional presentation, communication, and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to engage effectively with diverse groups. Strong leadership qualities and experience in managing and mentoring design teams. A robust portfolio showcasing successful urban design and architectural projects. Understanding of South African planning legislation and regulatory frameworks.
