Placements24 is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer for a leading SA construction group in Johannesburg, Gauteng. You will lead design efforts for major commercial and industrial projects, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and compliance with SANS.

You will mentor junior engineers and coordinate with architects and project managers to deliver high-profile projects. Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of post-graduate experience, Pr.Eng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structures.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is essential.
• Minimum 7 years post-graduate experience in structural design focusing on commercial/industrial projects.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (ETABS, SAP2000, Revit Structure).
• Strong understanding of SA building regulations, SANS codes, and international standards.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design process for a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial buildings from concept to completion.
• Perform detailed structural analysis and calculations using ETABS, SAP2000, or similar, ensuring SANS compliance.
• Develop structural drawings, specifications, and contract docs for tender and construction.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support to ensure proper implementation.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers and consultants for integrated outcomes.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster ongoing learning within the team.
• Review and approve shop drawings and submittals for design intent.
• Manage project timelines and budgets related to structural deliverables.
• Identify and mitigate structural risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Stay updated on new technologies, materials, and construction methods.
