Placements24 in South Africa invites a seasoned Lead Resource Geologist to drive gold deposit estimation and reporting in the Northern Cape. You will oversee resource estimation processes, validate datasets, and coordinate with mine planning and development teams to underpin strategic decisions.

You will refine geological and geostatistical models, perform variography and domaining, mentor junior staff, stay abreast of new methods, ensure compliance with JORC/SAMREC, and contribute to reporting

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Geology or Economic Geology with focus on geostatistics and resource modeling.
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in resource geology, 3+ years in lead/senior role focused on gold deposits.
• Proven expertise in geostatistical techniques and resource estimation software (Leapfrog Geo, Surpac, Datamine).
• Strong understanding of geological controls on gold mineralization and exploration processes.
• Experience with data validation, QA/QC procedures, and geological database management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute resource estimation for gold projects in line with industry codes (JORC, SAMREC).
• Develop, validate, and refine geological and geostatistical models from exploration and drilling data.
• Perform geostatistical analysis including variography and domaining for accuracy of estimates.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic exploration company with significant interests in the Kimberley, Northern Cape region, is seeking an experienced Lead Resource Geologist to drive the estimation and reporting of gold deposits. This senior role is pivotal in assessing the economic viability of mineral resources and ensuring robust geological models underpin strategic decisions. The Lead Resource Geologist will oversee resource estimation processes, validate geological data, and collaborate with mine planning and development teams. This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to contribute to the discovery and delineation of valuable gold assets in a key mining jurisdiction.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute resource estimation for gold projects, adhering to industry best practices (e.g., JORC, SAMREC codes).
• Develop, validate, and refine geological and geostatistical models based on exploration and drilling data.
• Perform geostatistical analysis, including variography and domaining, to ensure accuracy in resource estimates.
• Collaborate closely with exploration geologists, surveyors, and engineers to gather and interpret data.
• Prepare comprehensive resource reports suitable for internal use, external reporting, and investment decisions.
• Oversee geological data management systems and ensure data integrity.
• Mentor and guide junior geologists and technicians involved in resource estimation.
• Stay abreast of new methodologies and technologies in resource modeling and estimation.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and reporting standards for mineral resources.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in Geology or Economic Geology, with a strong focus on geostatistics and resource modeling.
