About the Role

Our client, a leading mid-tier mining company, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geologist to bolster their exploration and resource definition team in Benoni, Gauteng. This role is crucial for identifying, evaluating, and delineating new mineral resources, as well as optimizing the estimation of existing ones. You will be responsible for planning and executing geological exploration programs, conducting detailed field mapping, supervising drilling operations, and performing geological data analysis. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in exploration geology, particularly in gold or base metals, and a strong understanding of resource modeling techniques. Key Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and execute surface and underground exploration programs, including target generation, soil sampling, and geochemical surveys.
• Conduct detailed geological mapping and structural analysis of mineralized zones.
• Supervise drilling programs (RC, diamond drilling), ensuring core recovery, logging accuracy, and QA/QC protocols are maintained.
• Collect, interpret, and integrate geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to define mineralized trends and bodies.
• Perform geological modeling and resource estimation using industry-standard software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Datamine).
• Collaborate with mining engineers and metallurgists to provide geological input for mine planning and feasibility studies.
• Prepare comprehensive geological reports, including exploration updates, resource estimates, and technical memorandums.
• Ensure compliance with relevant geological reporting codes (e.g., JORC, SAMREC).
• Mentor junior geologists and contribute to the continuous improvement of geological methodologies and data management.

Requirements

• Honours or Master's degree in Geology or Economic Geology.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in mineral exploration and resource geology, preferably with a focus on gold or base metals.
• Demonstrated proficiency in geological mapping, core logging, and structural interpretation.
• Experience with geological modeling and resource estimation software is essential.
• Strong understanding of geochemical and geophysical exploration techniques.
• Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and reporting skills.
• Familiarity with exploration project management and budget control.
• Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments, often under challenging conditions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Professional registration with SACGeol is advantageous.
