Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Chief Mine Surveyor to lead the surveying department at a major diamond mining operation in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. The role oversees underground and surface surveys, ensures data integrity, and drives best practices for accurate reserve calculations and development measurements.

The candidate will manage a team, implement advanced surveying technologies, and liaise with geology, engineering, and operations to optimize ore extraction while maintaining regulatory

Qualifications

• 10 years of progressive mine surveying experience
• Minimum 3 years in supervisory/leadership roles
• Professional registration as a Mine Surveyor with SA authority
• Experience in diamond mining operations, underground and open-pit preferred
• Proficient with industry surveying software and standards
• Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork abilities

Responsibilities

• Oversee underground and surface mine surveying activities
• Develop and enforce best practices and standards for surveying
• Lead, train, and mentor a team of mine surveyors
• Conduct survey measurements for development, production, and reserves
• Utilize total stations, GPS, laser scanners, and 3D modelling tools
• Ensure accurate volumetric calculations for ore and waste
• Coordinate with geology, engineering, and operations teams
• Maintain secure and accurate survey databases and records
• Ensure compliance with mining legislation and survey standards
• Participate in audits of survey work and equipment calibration
