Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join our client in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. You will lead electrical design and engineering for renewable energy projects, including solar PV and battery storage, with a focus on grid integration and safety.

You will mentor junior staff, review designs, and ensure quality and compliance with IEC and SANS standards. A Master’s in Electrical Engineering and 8+ years’ experience are expected.

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or Renewable Energy.
• 8+ years in electrical design with at least 3 years in a lead/senior role in renewables.
• Proven design experience for solar PV and energy storage systems.
• Knowledge of grid codes and safety standards (IEC, SANS).
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsabilidades

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the sustainable energy sector, is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join their expanding team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, ZA. This role supports a hybrid work model, offering a blend of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. You will take a leading role in the electrical design and engineering of renewable energy projects, including solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage systems. The position requires a deep understanding of grid integration, power quality, and electrical safety standards. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for overseeing design activities, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the technical integrity and quality of all electrical designs. This role is crucial for driving innovation and excellence in our client's project development pipeline, contributing to a greener future. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership capabilities and a comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems for distributed energy resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering for renewable energy projects (solar PV, battery storage).
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
• Perform power system analysis, including load flow, fault studies, and interconnection studies.
• Ensure designs comply with grid codes, utility requirements, and relevant electrical standards (e.g., IEC, SANS).
• Oversee the selection and procurement of electrical equipment, such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, and batteries.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of electrical engineers and designers.
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Conduct design reviews, site assessments (where necessary), and provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Stay abreast of technological advancements and regulatory changes in the renewable energy sector.
• Contribute to proposal development and technical sales support.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems or Renewable Energy.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical design and engineering, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior capacity within the renewable energy sector.
• Proven experience with solar PV systems design, including component sizing and performance modeling.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, PVsyst).
• Strong understanding of battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology and integration.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) designation is highly preferred.
