Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Data Privacy Officer to lead the organization's data protection efforts in East London, South Africa. You will ensure compliance with POPIA and GDPR, develop privacy policies, and promote a culture of privacy.

You will conduct DPIAs, manage DSARs, oversee breach response, and provide staff training. The role offers a competitive salary, flexible remote work, and opportunities for privacy certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Law, Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data privacy, compliance, or a related legal/IT security field.
• In-depth knowledge of data protection regulations such as POPIA and GDPR.
• Experience with privacy management tools and frameworks.
• Strong understanding of information security principles and risk management.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the organization's data privacy strategy and policies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant data protection laws and regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR).
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects and systems involving personal data.
• Manage and respond to data subject access requests (DSARs) and other privacy-related inquiries.
• Oversee data breach response procedures and ensure timely notification to authorities and affected individuals as required.
• Provide training and awareness programs on data privacy best practices to employees.
