Job summary

Halewood South Africa in Benoni is seeking a Qualified Artisan — Fitter / Millwright / Senior Fitter to maintain production, packaging and utility equipment, ensuring uptime and safe operation.

You will diagnose faults, perform preventive maintenance, assist with CAPEX projects and read electrical/mechanical drawings while following safety and food-safety rules. N3 with Red Seal is essential; 1–3 years post-trade experience is preferred. Basic PLC knowledge is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Post-trade experience of 1–3 years is preferred
• Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments is advantageous
• Ability to diagnose faults on packaging, processing and utility equipment
• Able to read electrical and mechanical drawings
• Eager to learn and work methodically and safely
• Basic PLC knowledge (Siemens/Allen-Bradley is a plus)

Responsibilities

• Respond to electro-mechanical breakdowns on packaging, processing and utility equipment; diagnose faults and restore operation.
• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections, and close out work orders in the CMMS.
• Build PLC, automation and reliability skills through structured development.
• Support installations, modifications and commissioning on engineering and CAPEX projects.
• Follow LOTO, permit-to-work, electrical safety and food-safety rules.
• Hand over equipment status clearly to Production at shift change.
• Contribute to root-cause analysis on recurring failures.
• Suggest improvements to PM routines and spares holdings.
