Job summary

Halewood South Africa is seeking qualified artisans specializing in Fitter, Millwright or Senior Fitter to join our engineering team in Benoni, Gauteng. You will perform planned maintenance, respond to breakdowns, and refurbish older production and packaging equipment to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.

The role requires a Red Seal qualification (Fitter or Fitter & Turner) with 3+ years post-trade experience, preferably in FMCG or packaging manufacturing.

Qualifications

• N2/N3 with Red Seal Trade Test as Fitter or Fitter & Turner is essential.
• 3+ years post-trade experience, preferably in FMCG, beverage or packaging manufacturing.
• Bearings, gearboxes, pumps, drives, pneumatics, hydraulics and alignment.
• Reading engineering drawings; machining and fabrication an advantage.
• Planned-maintenance discipline and quality of workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Carry out preventive maintenance and inspections on fillers, cappers, labellers, conveyors, pumps and gearboxes.
• Respond to mechanical breakdowns; diagnose root causes and restore equipment safely.
• Plan and execute refurbishments and overhauls, including parts, tooling and downtime.
• Apply lock-out/tag-out, permit-to-work and food-safety standards on every job.
• Record work orders, parts and time accurately in the CMMS.
• Improve PM task lists, spares lists and standard job procedures.
