Job summary

Halewood South Africa in Benoni (Gauteng) seeks Qualified Artisans — Fitter / Millwright / Senior Fitter to lead mechanical refurbishment and reliability work on production and packaging assets. You will restore equipment to near new performance and support asset recovery programs while reducing downtime and boosting capacity.

Qualifications

• N2/N3 with Red Seal Trade Test as Fitter, Fitter & Turner or Millwright (essential).
• 5+ years' post-trade experience in FMCG, beverage, food or packaging manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Plan and carry out mechanical overhauls and refurbishments of fillers, cappers, labellers, sleevers, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes and processing equipment.
• Respond to complex breakdowns; diagnose root causes and restore equipment safely and quickly.
• Carry out preventive and predictive maintenance as scheduled in the CMMS, and record work orders, parts and time accurately.
• Manufacture, modify and fit components (machining, fitting, alignment, welding where qualified).
• Apply lock-out/tag-out, permit-to-work and food-safety (hygienic engineering) standards on all jobs.
• Guide, coach and check the work of Junior Millwrights and Apprentices.
• Lead refurbishment scopes under the CAPEX & Asset Recovery programme and validate equipment performance after a rebuild.
• Carry out root-cause analysis on repeat failures, and help improve MTBF/MTTR and asset criticality.
• Improve PM task lists, spares lists and standard job procedures in the CMMS.
• Pass trade knowledge on to apprentices and support their trade-test readiness.

Qualifications & experience

• N2/N3 with Red Seal Trade Test as Fitter, Fitter & Turner or Millwright (essential).

• Demonstrated experience in machine overhauls and refurbishments.
• Mechanical systems: bearings, gearboxes, pumps, drives, pneumatics, hydraulics and alignment.
• Packaging line equipment (fillers, cappers, labellers, sleevers, conveyors).
• Reading engineering drawings; machining and fabrication.
• CMMS use and basic root-cause methods (5-Why, fishbone).
• Takes ownership and quality of workmanship.
