Job summary

Placements24 in Rustenburg is seeking a Junior Bioinformatician to join our team and support research by analyzing large-scale biological datasets.

You will work with bench scientists and senior bioinformaticians to design data analysis strategies, interpret results, and develop pipelines using Python or R. This is an in-person role offering training and mentorship in a collaborative lab setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology, or a related quantitative field.
• Foundational knowledge of biological concepts and experience with bioinformatics databases and tools.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (Python, R, Perl).
• Familiarity with command-line interfaces and high-performance computing environments is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Process and analyze next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, including variant calling, gene expression analysis, and pathway analysis.
• Develop and maintain scripts and pipelines for automated data processing and analysis using Python or R.
• Collaborate with experimental scientists to design data analysis strategies and interpret results.
• Visualize biological data to effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Assist in the management and curation of biological databases.
