Placements24 in Klerksdorp is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician to join our genomics research team. This role centers on analyzing large-scale genomic datasets, building computational pipelines, and extracting meaningful biological insights to drive research forward.

You will collaborate with molecular biologists, geneticists, and other computational scientists in a dynamic, research-focused environment, leveraging cutting-edge infrastructure to push genomic science from our Klerksdorp location.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, CS, Statistics, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in bioinformatics or computational genomics research.
• Proficiency in Python, R, and/or Perl.
• Strong experience with NGS data analysis tools and platforms (STAR, GATK).
• Solid understanding of statistical methods and machine learning techniques applied to biological data.
• Experience working in Linux/Unix environments and HPC clusters.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement robust bioinformatics pipelines for NGS data.
• Perform data quality control, statistical analysis, and interpretation of genomic datasets.
• Identify genetic variants, expression patterns, and functional pathways.
• Collaborate with experimental biologists to design experiments and interpret results.
• Stay current with advancements in bioinformatics tools, algorithms, and genomic technologies.
