Placements24 seeks a Senior Bioinformatician to join a cutting-edge genomics research team in Mahikeng. You will analyze large-scale genomic and transcriptomic data, develop scalable pipelines, and collaborate with biologists, clinicians, and data scientists to extract biological insights.

The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. or MSc, 5+ years in bioinformatics, strong Python/R/Perl skills, experience with HPC and cloud platforms, and a solid understanding of molecular biology and genomics.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, CS, Statistics, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of bioinformatics/computational biology research.
• Proficiency in Python, R, and/or Perl.
• Hands-on experience with common bioinformatics tools and databases for genomic analysis.
• Solid understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) and HPC is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze high-throughput sequencing data (e.g., WGS, exome, RNA-Seq) using pipelines.
• Develop, implement, and maintain scalable bioinformatics workflows and tools.
• Perform statistical analysis and interpretation of genomic and transcriptomic data.
• Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to design experiments and interpret results.
• Contribute to development/maintenance of biological databases and ontologies.
• Present findings at team meetings, conferences, and publications.
