Overview
ENVIRONMENT: A hospitality group is seeking an experienced IT Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of the institution’s IT infrastructure, systems, and services. The role ensures seamless operations, data integrity, robust cybersecurity, and an optimal technology experience for both guests and staff. Responsibilities include strategic planning, systems implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, vendor management, and providing user support across all departments. Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, with relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, ITIL) considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- IT Strategy and Infrastructure Management
Develop and maintain the Institution’s IT strategy aligned with operational goals and guest expectations.
- Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, networks, servers, and communication systems.
- Ensure all IT systems (Property Management System, POS, Wi-Fi, conferencing equipment, back-office applications, etc.) are fully functional and secure.
- Systems and Network Administration
Monitor performance of systems and network components; proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Manage LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks throughout.
- Perform regular system backups, updates, and recovery processes in line with data protection regulations.
- Support and Troubleshooting
Provide timely and effective IT support to staff across all departments.
- Ensure high availability and quality of guest-facing systems such as in-room entertainment, internet access, technologies.
- Coordinate technical support for events, including AV and connectivity requirements.
- Cybersecurity and Data Protection
Implement and maintain cybersecurity policies and controls to protect guest and company data.
- Monitor and respond to security breaches, system vulnerabilities, and malware threats.
- Ensure compliance with POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act) and other regulatory frameworks.
- Budgeting and Vendor Management
Prepare and manage the annual IT budget; control costs related to hardware, software, licensing, and service providers.
- Liaise with vendors and contractors to procure, implement, and maintain IT solutions.
- Manage service level agreements and ensure value for money and service quality.
- Training and Documentation
Train staff on the correct and secure use of IT systems and tools.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all IT assets, configurations, procedures, and support logs.
Qualifications
- Education & Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Relevant certifications (e.g. CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, ITIL) will be advantageous.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in IT management, preferably in a hospitality or service-oriented environment.
- Proven experience managing hospitality-specific systems such as Opera, Micros, Fidelio, Protel, or similar.
- Attributes: Strong technical knowledge across multiple IT domains; Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; High attention to detail and strong organisational ability; Effective interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to work under pressure and outside of standard hours when required.
