Kontak Recruitment is seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer (T3) in Johannesburg. You will join a four-person infrastructure team led by a Head of Infrastructure to work on complex client environments.

The role offers a growth path with on-call support, on-site collaboration, and exposure to virtualization, storage, and security. A strong technical background and proactive mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in IT infrastructure engineering or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of network protocols, routing, and switching.
• Experience with server hardware and storage.
• Hands-on with virtualization such as VMware or Hyper-V.
• PowerShell or Python scripting is advantageous.
• Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, MCSE, Azure Administrator, M365 or Fortinet NSE 4 are preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends and be on-call.

Responsabilités

• Design, deploy and maintain IT infrastructure including servers, networks and storage systems.
• Provide advanced Tier 3 support, handling escalations from Tier 2 and NOC.
• Monitor performance to ensure high availability and reliability; resolve issues proactively.
• Perform regular maintenance, patches, and updates.
• Implement and manage security measures to protect systems and data.
• Manage virtualization environments including VMware and Hyper-V.
• Assist in deployment and configuration of new infrastructure components.
• Perform backups and oversee recovery procedures.
• Document infrastructure configurations, procedures and changes.
• Collaborate with IT team to continuously improve services.
• Occasionally backfill on client sites when required.
• Stay current with emerging industry trends and technologies.

IT Infrastructure Engineer (T3) job vacancy in Johannesburg.

The successful candidate will step into a team of four engineers led by a Head of Infrastructure, working on complex, real-world infrastructure environments for a diverse client base.

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering or a comparable role
• Strong working knowledge of network protocols, routing and switching
• Solid experience with server hardware and storage solutions
• Hands-on experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python is advantageous
• Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, MCSE, Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Certified Administrator Expert or Fortinet NSE 4 are preferred
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
• Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends and be available on call for emergencies

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy and maintain IT infrastructure including servers, networks and storage systems
• Provide advanced Tier 3 support, picking up escalated issues from Tier 2 support and the NOC team
• Monitor system performance to ensure high availability and reliability, resolving issues proactively
• Perform regular system maintenance, patching and updates to keep infrastructure running optimally
• Implement and manage security measures that protect systems and data from cyber threats
• Manage and maintain virtualisation environments including VMware and Hyper-V
• Assist in the deployment and configuration of new infrastructure components
• Perform regular system backups and oversee recovery procedures
• Document infrastructure configurations, procedures and changes accurately
• Collaborate with IT team members to support and continuously improve IT services
• Occasionally act as a backfill resource on client sites when required
• Stay current with emerging industry trends and evolving technologies
