Job summary

Lactalis South Africa is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Technician to install, calibrate, and maintain industrial instrumentation and control systems to ensure safe and efficient plant operation.

You will work on PLCs, SCADA, and automation systems, perform fault finding, root-cause analysis, and support maintenance programs. Shifts, overtime, weekends may be required. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to Lactalis SA's growth in South Africa.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in electrical engineering, instrumentation, or process control.
• Trade Test Certificate is advantageous.
• 3–5 years in industrial maintenance/automation environments.
• Experience with PLCs, variable-speed drives, and process instrumentation.
• Experience in manufacturing, food processing, or FMCG sectors.
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends and public holidays.
• Strong communication and detail orientation.
• MS Office with advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, loop diagrams and control schematics.
• Root-cause analysis and corrective actions for instrumentation and electrical systems.
• Fault finding on instrumentation and electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Configure and maintain variable speed drives.
• Support industrial communication networks.
• Assist software modifications and upgrades.
• Inspect, test, calibrate and maintain field instruments.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance.

Required Skills And Qualifications

• National Diploma or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or Process Control.
• Trade Test Certificate (Advantageous)
• 3 to 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance and automation environments.
• Experience working with PLCs, variable-speed drives and process instrumentation.
• Experience within the manufacturing, ford processing or FMCG industries.
• Willing to work shifts, overtime, weekends and public holidays, when required
• Must be accurate and pay attention to detail
• Must be a good communicator
• Computer literate in MS Office (Excel advanced skills)
