Job summary

Placements24 in Polokwane, Limpopo is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead end-to-end design of robust industrial equipment. The role covers concept generation, detailed design, prototyping and testing.

You will work with R&D and manufacturing, apply CAD (SolidWorks or Inventor) and perform static/dynamic analysis, leading to high-quality, cost-effective solutions in the South African industrial sector.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of mechanical design and product development experience.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science.
• Experience with basic FEA and simulation tools is advantageous.
• Knowledge of machining, fabrication and assembly processes.
• Ability to perform hand calculations for design validation.
• Good problem-solving and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with industrial automation and control systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components for industrial machinery using advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor).
• Create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and BOMs according to industry standards.
• Perform calculations for strength, stress, thermal, and dynamics analysis to ensure design integrity.
• Collaborate with the R&D team to develop new product concepts and improve existing designs.
• Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective to produce.
• Build and test prototypes, analyze performance data, and make necessary design modifications.
• Troubleshoot design-related issues encountered during manufacturing or in the field.
• Research and evaluate new materials and technologies for potential application in product design.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
