Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our client’s facility in Klerksdorp, North West. You will lead the full design cycle for automated machinery, from concept through detailed design, prototyping, and implementation.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in mechanical design, strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD), and a passion for automation and manufacturing efficiency. On-site work in Klerksdorp, with opportunities for development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 2-5 years of mechanical design experience in industrial automation, machinery, or robotics.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD).
• Understanding of mechanical analysis principles (stress, strain, tolerance).
• Knowledge of common manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, 3D printing).
• Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for industrial automation equipment using 3D CAD software.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications for manufacturing and procurement.
• Perform mechanical analysis, including stress, strain, and tolerance analysis, to ensure design integrity and functionality.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, software developers, and automation specialists to integrate mechanical designs into complete systems.
• Work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure designs are producible, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
• Participate in prototype development, testing, and validation processes, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
• Research and recommend new technologies and design approaches to improve product performance and efficiency.
• Support the installation and commissioning of automation systems at client sites.
• Maintain accurate design documentation and revision control throughout the product lifecycle.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
