Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its Benoni, Gauteng operation to design, develop and improve complex industrial machinery across the product lifecycle. You will contribute from concept through testing, validation and supporting production.

The role requires a strong CAD background, a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, and at least 3 years’ experience in industrial machinery design. Collaboration with manufacturing and a focus on robust, efficient solutions are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, specifically related to industrial machinery or equipment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
• Solid understanding of mechanical principles, including statics, dynamics, kinematics, and materials science.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new industrial machinery and improve existing designs based on performance requirements, market feedback, and technological advancements.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using CAD software.
• Perform engineering calculations, including stress analysis, load calculations, and material selection.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for production processes and assembly.
• Conduct design reviews and tests to validate performance, safety, and reliability of machinery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues encountered during prototyping, manufacturing, or field operation.
• Specify and select components such as motors, actuators, bearings, and power transmission elements.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in industrial machinery design.
• Prepare technical documentation and reports related to design activities and project progress.
