The role requires 4+ years in industrial engineering, CAD proficiency, and a strong lean manufacturing background. Automotive exposure is a plus, with a focus on cost-effective, safe, and efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in industrial engineering with plant layout/workflow design focus.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software for 2D/3D design.
• Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles applied to facility design.
• Experience with simulation software to model layout scenarios is a plus.
• Excellent spatial reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication skills to present concepts and justify recommendations.
• Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards in manufacturing.
• Prior automotive or heavy manufacturing exposure in Durban is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate existing plant layouts and propose optimized designs to improve material handling and workflow.
• Use CAD to create detailed 2D/3D models of layouts and workstations.
• Conduct ergonomic assessments to improve safety and reduce injuries.
• Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and flow improvements.
• Develop SOPs related to workflow and material handling.
• Collaborate with production managers, maintenance, and vendors for practical implementations.
• Manage facility upgrade and equipment relocation projects with minimal disruption.
• Research new technologies and automation to enhance efficiency.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives for operational excellence.
