Job summary

Absa Group is seeking a Technical Accounting Specialist to provide technical accounting and regulatory support on complex transactions across Absa’s businesses in South Africa and rest of Africa. You will determine appropriate accounting policies, prepare technical accounting opinions, and engage with stakeholders for IFRS-related treatments.

The role requires up-to-date IFRS knowledge, CA(SA) qualification, and 3–5 years in a technical accounting position within financial services.

Qualifications

• Stay up to date with IFRS and regulatory developments (IASB/SAICA) and communicate implications to business units.
• Identify and resolve accounting issues within the business units to ensure accurate financial reporting under IFRS and group policies.
• Provide practical guidance on accounting treatments for new products and transactions from an IFRS perspective.

Responsibilities

• Stay up to date with IASB/SAICA guidance to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Inform GFR notes owners of accounting changes affecting disclosures.
• Provide technical accounting opinions for new transactions and products.
• Collaborate with CFOs and business units to address and resolve accounting issues proactively.
