Placements24 is seeking a specialized Petroleum Geochemist for our Kimberley, Northern Cape operations. The role focuses on understanding hydrocarbon origin, migration, and accumulation in prospective basins.

You will perform detailed geochemical analyses on source rocks, oils, and gases to assess maturity and potential. The successful candidate will work hands-on in the lab, interpret data, and collaborate with geological and reservoir teams to de-risk exploration and identify high-potential

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geochemistry, Organic Geochemistry, Geology, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in petroleum geochemistry focused on exploration.
• Proficiency with geochemical techniques and instrumentation.
• Strong understanding of organic matter, maturity indicators, and petroleum systems.
• Excellent analytical, data interpretation and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geochemical analyses on rocks and fluids (Rock-Eval, GC-MS, IRMS).
• Assess organic matter richness, type, and thermal maturity of source rocks.
• Determine oil-source rock correlations and migration pathways.
• Characterize composition and maturity of crude oils and natural gases.
• Interpret data to evaluate petroleum system elements and risk.
• Integrate geochemical findings with geological and geophysical data.
• Prepare technical reports and present interpretations to teams.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure safety compliance.
• Stay updated on advances in petroleum geochemistry techniques.
