Job summary

Placements24 in Upington, Northern Cape, seeks a Senior Petroleum Geochemist to lead geochemical evaluation of hydrocarbon systems and source rocks. You will analyze rock, oil, and gas samples and help build petroleum systems models.

You will mentor junior staff and collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, and engineers to advance exploration and production strategies. Strong SA frontier experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geochemistry or related Earth Science.
• 8+ years of progressive petroleum geochemistry experience.
• Proven expertise with GC-MS, ICP-MS, and Rock-Eval analyses.
• Strong understanding of organic matter, maturity, and isotopic analysis.
• Experience with basin modeling software and field data integration.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret geochemical data from rock, oil, and gas samples.
• Characterize source rocks for maturity, richness, and depositional setting.
• Perform oil-oil and oil-source correlations to map migration pathways.
• Evaluate reservoir fluids and phase behavior using geochemical methods.
• Integrate geochemical data with geological interpretations for prospect assessment.
• Develop petroleum systems models incorporating geochemical constraints.
• Contribute to reserve reporting and resource estimation with geochemical insights.
• Collaborate with exploration geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers.
• Stay current with advances in petroleum geochemistry and software.
• Mentor junior geochemists and support technical development.
