Placements24 seeks a Junior Process Control Engineer for a Welkom, Free State client in the specialty chemicals sector. You will help design, implement, and maintain DCS/PLC systems, gain hands-on experience in control strategies and safety-compliant operations, and support commissioning activities on site.

This entry-to-mid-level role blends on-site support with remote analysis in a hybrid setup. A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering and up to 4 years of relevant experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• 0-4 years of relevant experience in process control, automation, or instrumentation.
• Foundational knowledge of control theory, PID control, and basic instrumentation.
• Familiarity with DCS and PLC platforms (Siemens, Rockwell, Emerson).
• Basic understanding of chemical processes in mining or specialty chemicals.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a hybrid environment.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and configuration of DCS and PLCs.
• Develop and maintain control strategies, loop tuning, and alarm management.
• Collaborate with process engineers and operators to identify control requirements.
• Support commissioning and start-up of new control systems and equipment.
• Troubleshoot control system issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Ensure SIL requirements during safety reviews.
• Develop and deliver operator and technician training on control systems.
• Generate reports on system performance, downtime, and optimization initiatives.
• Stay updated with advances in process automation and control technologies.
• Work in a hybrid model balancing remote analysis with on-site implementation in Welkom.
