Job summary

Placements24 in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, seeks an Industrial Engineer specializing in facility layout and design to optimize the physical configuration of manufacturing plants, improve workflow, material handling, and safety compliance.

You will develop conceptual designs, create detailed CAD layouts (2D/3D), and collaborate with operations, project management, and maintenance teams in a hybrid work model that blends site work with analysis and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience in facility layout, plant design, or ergonomics.
• Proficiency in CAD software for designing and modeling layouts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize facility layouts for new and existing plants to improve material flow and efficiency.
• Create detailed 2D/3D layouts using CAD including equipment placement and material handling systems.
• Perform site surveys to gather data for layout design and planning.
• Collaborate with operations, production, maintenance and safety teams to meet requirements.
• Conduct ergonomic assessments and implement safe, comfortable designs.
• Develop cost estimates and project timelines for layout projects.
• Prepare presentations and reports for stakeholders on design proposals and status.
• Evaluate material handling options (conveyors, AGVs, forklifts) for optimal fit.
• Ensure designs comply with building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
• Support continuous improvement by identifying layout optimization opportunities.
