Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a nonprofit organization in East London, Eastern Cape, ZA, to hire a Project Officer. The role blends office work with remote collaboration to plan, implement, and monitor community development projects with communities and partners.

The ideal candidate will have a Development Studies or related degree, at least 4 years of project management experience, strong budgeting, stakeholder engagement, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in project management or coordination in community development.
• Proven ability to manage project budgets and resources effectively.
• Strong understanding of community development methodologies and best practices.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in project management software and tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and community mobilization.
• Knowledge of the socio-economic context of East London, Eastern Cape region is an asset.
• Commitment to empowering communities and fostering sustainable development.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and oversee community development projects according to project plans and timelines.
• Manage project budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and timely financial reporting.
• Conduct community needs assessments and feasibility studies to identify project opportunities.
• Coordinate with community members, local leaders, and stakeholders to ensure project buy-in and participation.
• Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Ensure project activities are aligned with organizational goals and ethical standards.
• Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community meetings as required.
• Prepare project reports, documenting progress, outcomes, and lessons learned.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with project partners and beneficiaries.
• Contribute to the development of new project proposals and strategies.
