Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Architectural Designer with a focus on heritage conservation for a hybrid role in Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will lead restoration and adaptive reuse projects, conduct rigorous historical research, and ensure adherence to heritage regulations while collaborating with authorities and specialists.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s degree in Architecture or Urban Conservation and strong software skills (AutoCAD, Revit, 3D visualization).

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Architecture or Urban Conservation or related field.
• SACAP registration is highly desirable.
• Proven experience in heritage conservation, restoration or adaptive reuse.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development for heritage conservation and restoration projects.
• Conduct historical research, site analysis, and condition assessments of heritage buildings.
• Prepare detailed architectural drawings, measured surveys, restoration plans, and adaptive reuse proposals.
• Ensure design interventions comply with heritage guidelines and regulations.
• Collaborate with heritage consultants, engineers, archaeologists, and other specialists on integrated conservation strategies.
• Liaise with heritage bodies (e.g., SAHRA) and stakeholders.
• Develop specifications for heritage-sensitive materials and construction techniques.
• Assist in documentation for heritage impact assessments and approvals.
• Provide oversight during construction to maintain conservation principles.
• Mentor junior designers in heritage conservation practices.
