Job summary

Placements24 is partnering with a prestigious Stellenbosch vineyard and renowned restaurant to recruit a Sommelier and Wine Bar Manager. You will curate an extensive wine list, guide guests through selections, and oversee daily wine bar operations in a luxury setting.

The ideal candidate brings a minimum of five years in a high-end wine-focused role, deep SA and international wine knowledge, and strong leadership plus staff training abilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in a sommelier or high-end wine-focused role.
• Extensive knowledge of international and South African wines, regions, varietals.
• Formal sommelier certification is desirable.
• Experience in inventory management and cost control.
• Strong leadership and customer-service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, curate, and manage the wine list to ensure variety and quality.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and pairings to guests.
• Oversee daily wine bar operations, including opening/closing and ambiance.
• Manage wine inventory, ordering, receiving, storage, and stock control.
• Train and mentor staff on wine knowledge, service etiquette, and upselling.
• Ensure licensing, health, and safety compliance for alcohol service.
• Develop and host wine tastings, events, and promotions.
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and negotiate terms.
• Monitor wine bar sales and implement revenue-driving strategies.
