About the Role

Our client, a prestigious winery and hospitality establishment in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands, is seeking an accomplished and passionate Head Sommelier . This role involves overseeing the wine program across multiple dining venues, curating an exceptional wine list, and providing unparalleled guest experiences. You will lead a team of sommeliers, manage cellar inventory, and conduct wine tastings and training sessions for staff. The ideal candidate possesses an expert palate, extensive knowledge of global wines and spirits, and exceptional leadership qualities to elevate the establishment's reputation for fine dining and wine service.

Key Responsibilities

• Curate, manage, and continuously update the wine list, ensuring a diverse and high-quality selection.
• Lead and train the sommelier team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
• Manage wine cellar inventory, including procurement, storage, and stock rotation, ensuring optimal conditions.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and service to guests, creating memorable dining experiences.
• Conduct staff training on wine knowledge, food and wine pairing, and proper service techniques.
• Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure seamless pairing of wines with menu offerings.

Requirements

• Advanced Sommelier certification (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers Advanced or equivalent).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Sommelier, with at least 2 years in a Head Sommelier or senior role.
• Extensive knowledge of international wine regions, grape varietals, and winemaking techniques.
• Proven experience in wine list creation, cellar management, and inventory control.
• Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and potentially some remote administrative tasks relevant to the role in Stellenbosch .
