Job summary

Astral Foods Ltd is seeking a Hatchery Maintenance Manager to ensure all mechanical, electrical and facility systems in the hatchery operate reliably to maintain optimal incubation and hatching conditions. The role requires leadership of maintenance staff and adherence to safety, quality and biosecurity standards.

The candidate should have a trade certificate in electrical or millwright disciplines, Matric/N4, and 5+ years in hatchery settings, with weekends/public holidays work as required.

Qualifications

• Matric or N4 with N6 advantageous.
• Trade certificate as Electrician or Millwright.
• Minimum 5 years’ Hatchery experience or 3 years in a similar role.
• Technical/mechanical background in a hatchery environment preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of current labour legislation.
• Computer literacy.
• Proactive, self‑motivated and able to work independently.
• Team player; willing to work weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance for incubators, hatchers, water treatment and control systems.
• Handle purchasing requisition, spares control and PM planning.
• Maintain maintenance schedules and records.
• Achieve hatchery targets and budgets.
• Maintain 20 keys.
• Enforce strict biosecurity measures.
• Prepare budgets, manage and control running expenses.
• Ensure highest product quality and hygiene.
• Adhere to health and safety requirements and laws.

Role Overview

Festive, one of South African's leading integrated poultry producers within the Astral Group,is seeking a Hatchery Maintenance Manager for their Hatchery division. The role will focus on ensuring all mechanical , electrical and facility systems in the hatchery operate reliably to maintain optimal conditions for egg incubation and chick hatching.

The Ideal Candidate Would Be Responsible For

• Manage and control the maintenance processes involved in the Hatchery on an Operational level.
• Managing staff in a disciplined and effective manner.
• Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance for incubators, hatchers, water treatment and control systems.
• Purchasing requisition, spares control, and planning of preventative maintenance.
• Maintain maintenance schedules and records.
• Achieving hatchery targets and objectives.
• Maintaining 20 keys.
• Managing strict bio security measures.
• Preparing budgets, managing and controlling running expenses.
• Ensuring the highest product quality/ hygiene standards is always maintained.
• Adhering to Health and Safety requirements and laws.

The Successful Candidate Must Meet The Following Requirements

• Matric or Minimum N4, but N6 will be advantageous.
• Be in possession of a trade certificate as an Electrician or Millwright.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Hatchery or 3 years’ in a similar role.
• Technical/ Mechanical Background in a Hatchery Environment is preferable.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge, understanding and application of current labour legislation.
• Must be computer literate.
• Passionate, self‑motivated and performance driven.
• Must be pro‑active and able to work accurately and independently.
• Must be a team player.
• Willing to work weekends and public holidays.
