Placements24 is seeking an experienced Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic for a major airport in Polokwane, Limpopo. You will maintain a diverse fleet of GSE including baggage tractors, belt loaders, aircraft tugs, and de-icing units, performing diagnostics and repairs to minimize downtime.

The role requires 5+ years as a mechanic with 3+ years in GSE, strong electrical/hydraulic skills, and the ability to read schematics.

Qualifications

• A relevant trade qualification (e.g., Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Automotive Technician) or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanic, with at least 3 years specializing in Ground Support Equipment.
• Proven experience working with diesel engines, gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and troubleshooting complex machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic information.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
• Strong understanding of workshop safety procedures and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to obtain an airport security clearance for Polokwane.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, as required by operational demands.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance, inspections, and servicing on a wide range of GSE, including hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on GSE.
• Repair and replace faulty components, ensuring all work is performed to manufacturer specifications.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including parts used, labor, and diagnostic findings.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
• Operate GSE safely during testing and diagnostic procedures.
• Respond promptly to urgent repair requests to minimize operational disruptions.
• Maintain a clean and organized workshop and ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order.
• Identify potential issues and recommend preventative measures to improve equipment reliability and longevity.
• Stay up-to-date with new GSE technologies and maintenance techniques relevant to the Polokwane airport operations.
