Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Technician to manage and maintain a fleet of airport equipment in Port Elizabeth. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth and safe airport operations by keeping GSE in optimal condition.

You will diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on baggage tractors, belt loaders, tow tractors, and aircraft stairs, with emphasis on safety and quality.

Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is looking for a competent Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Technician to manage and maintain their fleet of vital airport equipment in Port Elizabeth . This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and safe operation of airport activities by keeping GSE vehicles and machinery in optimal working condition. You will be responsible for diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of equipment essential for aircraft ground handling. This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined individual passionate about maintaining the operational backbone of an airport in the Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on various GSE, including baggage tractors, belt loaders, tow tractors, and aircraft stairs.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Conduct repairs to engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical components of GSE.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and ensure timely resolution to minimize operational impact.
• Operate GSE safely when necessary for testing and operational checks.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a mechanic or technician, preferably with exposure to heavy machinery or automotive repair.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain an airport-specific security clearance.
