Placements24 in Richards Bay is seeking an innovative Grid Modernization Engineer to upgrade and optimize the electricity grid, integrating smart meters, DERs and renewable energy sources to enhance reliability, efficiency, and resilience.
You will lead design and deployment, analyze performance, and collaborate with regulators and stakeholders to ensure standards compliance while building a smarter energy network for KwaZulu-Natal.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with power systems specialization.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in power system engineering, focused on grid modernization or smart grids.
- Solid understanding of grid operations, protection schemes, and power system stability.
- Experience with SCADA, GIS, and other grid management software.
- Knowledge of renewable energy integration challenges and solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement grid modernization strategies, including smart grid tech and DERs.
- Analyze grid performance data to identify improvements in reliability, efficiency and capacity.
- Develop technical specs for new grid infrastructure, substations, and control systems.
- Evaluate and select technologies for grid automation, monitoring and protection.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies and stakeholders to ensure compliance with standards and policies.
- Oversee deployment and testing of new grid technologies, ensuring seamless integration.
