Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Midrand seeks a General Manager: Legal to lead the Group Legal function. You will translate the General Counsel’s strategy into operational priorities, coordinate portfolios of Senior Legal Advisors, manage legal risk, resources and service delivery, and provide senior advice on material matters.

The role requires an LLB and admission as an Attorney, with 10–15 years post-qualification experience and a strong background in commercial contracting and risk management.

Qualifications

• LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum of 10-15 years post-qualification experience.
• Proven experience leading a legal function or legal team, including responsibility for legal service delivery, legal risk, external counsel and complex legal matters.
• Strong experience across commercial contracting, negotiation and legal risk management and/or dispute resolution.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Group Legal function day-to-day operations and implement the strategic direction set by the General Counsel.
• Coordinate the Senior Legal Advisor portfolio for integrated service delivery across specialist areas.
• Implement the Legal strategy, operating model and priorities approved by the General Counsel.
• Develop and implement Legal service standards, turnaround times and prioritisation principles.
• Allocate and prioritise legal matters based on materiality, complexity, urgency, risk and capacity.
• Ensure escalation of material, complex or cross-functional matters.
• Establish quality assurance mechanisms and consistency of legal advice.
• Identify capacity constraints and specialist capability requirements.
• Monitor legal risks and report into the enterprise risk-management framework.
• Manage external counsel panels, budgets and expenditure.
