Job summary

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Midrand seeks a General Manager: Legal to lead the Group Legal function, translating strategy into operational priorities and ensuring high-quality legal service delivery.

You will drive governance, risk management, and senior advisory support across the business, including coordination of external counsel and legal risk mitigation in a complex, regulated environment.

Qualifications

• LLB or equivalent legal qualification with SA Attorney admission.
• 10–15 years post-qualification experience in a senior legal role.
• Experience leading a legal function, including service delivery, legal risk and dealing with external counsel.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the Group Legal function and implement strategic direction.
• Coordinate the Senior Legal Advisor portfolio for integrated service delivery across portfolios.
• Implement the Legal strategy, operating model and priorities approved by the General Counsel.
• Develop and implement legal service standards, turnaround times and prioritisation principles.
• Allocate and prioritise matters based on materiality, complexity, urgency and risk.
• Escalate material or cross-functional matters as required.
• Establish quality assurance mechanisms and consistent legal advice.
• Identify capacity constraints and specialist capability needs.
• Coordinate risk reporting into the enterprise risk-management framework.
• Monitor legal spend and manage external counsel budgets.
