Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our client’s team in Klerksdorp, North West. You will assess rock mass conditions, design ground support, and provide technical guidance for safe underground mining operations.

You will model stability, review mine designs, and work with operations to mitigate geotechnical risks. A strong background in rock mechanics and software tools is essential for this role.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Civil or Mining Engineering with Geotechnical specialization.
• Minimum 5 years in geotechnical engineering, preferably mining.
• Strong knowledge of rock/soil mechanics and engineering geology.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for modeling and analysis.
• Experience in ground control design for underground mines.

Responsabilités

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and data analysis for underground mining projects.
• Design, implement, and monitor ground support systems (rock bolts, mesh, shotcrete).
• Perform numerical modeling of underground excavations and assess stability.
• Provide recommendations on mine design, excavation sequencing, and safety practices.
• Monitor geotechnical conditions and report on seismicity and rock response.
• Collaborate with mine planning to integrate geotechnical factors into development.
• Develop and implement ground control management plans.
• Conduct site inspections and hazard assessments related to stability.
• Contribute to safety training on geotechnical hazards.
• Maintain records and prepare comprehensive reports.
