Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Geotechnical Engineer for underground mining operations based in Durban. You will assess ground conditions, design ground support, and work with mine planning to ensure safety and continuous production.

The role requires a Master’s degree, 7+ years in underground geotechnical engineering, and hands-on experience with FLAC and Map3D. You will apply modeling, instrumentation, and monitoring to mitigate hazards and optimise rock mass performance.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• At least 7 years of underground mining geotechnical experience.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as FLAC and Map3D.
• Strong knowledge of rock and soil mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and site characterization studies.
• Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems for underground excavations.
• Monitor ground conditions and assess the stability of mine workings using instrumentation.
• Perform numerical modeling and analysis to predict and mitigate geotechnical hazards.
• Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring and management plans.
