Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Geotechnical Engineer for a major mining operation in Rustenburg, North West. The role focuses on the stability and safety of open pits, waste dumps, and tailings storage facilities, with responsibilities for investigations, design parameters, and ongoing monitoring.

You will work with mine engineers, geologists, and environmental specialists to integrate geotechnical factors into mine planning, applying soil and rock mechanics, slope stability analyses, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical or related field.
• Minimum 5 years' geotechnical engineering experience, preferably mining.
• Proficiency in Rocscience, Plaxis, GeoStudio.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations for open pit slopes, waste dumps and tailings facilities.
• Perform slope stability analyses and provide safe operating limit recommendations.
• Develop design parameters and guidelines for geotechnical structures.
• Monitor geotechnical structures through instrumentation and data analysis.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with mine planning teams to integrate geotechnical factors into design and scheduling.
• Investigate geotechnical incidents and advise on corrective actions.
• Stay updated on geotechnical advances and regulatory requirements.
