Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in Rustenburg, North West, to contribute to ground condition assessments, foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks for mining and civil infra projects. You will perform site investigations, interpret lab test data, and apply numerical modeling to deliver robust geotechnical solutions.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical specialization, and ideally Pr Eng registration with ECSA, plus at least six years

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical specialization.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Experience with site investigation planning, execution and data interpretation.
• Familiar with South African geological conditions and standards.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Plaxis/SLOPE/W/SEEP-W.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Interpret geotechnical laboratory results and prepare comprehensive reports.
• Perform detailed geotechnical analyses: slope stability, bearing capacity, settlement, seepage.
• Design foundations (shallow and deep), retaining walls, and earthworks for mining and civil projects.
• Provide geotechnical input for feasibility studies, design, and construction phases.
• Develop geotechnical recommendations for complex ground conditions.
• Collaborate with clients, project managers, geologists and construction teams to implement designs.
• Oversee construction activities related to earthworks and foundations to ensure conformity.
• Stay updated with advancements in geotechnical practices and software.
