Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Geotechnical Engineer to support energy projects in Paarl, Western Cape. You will assess ground conditions, manage investigations, and guide foundation design for wind, solar, and transmission infrastructure.

You will collaborate with civil engineers, project managers, and environmental consultants to mitigate soil and rock mechanics risks and to deliver robust geotechnical reports, recommendations, and construction guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with exposure to energy projects.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and modeling (e.g., GeoStudio, Plaxis).
• Experience in managing geotechnical site investigations and interpreting field data.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee geotechnical investigations, including site reconnaissance, borehole drilling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to determine foundation design parameters for energy structures.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports detailing findings, recommendations, and risk assessments.
• Provide expert consultation on foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks for energy projects.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure geotechnical requirements are met.
• Review and approve geotechnical designs and construction methodologies for projects in the Paarl area and beyond.
